Supporting the Ivan Gonchar Museum: Protection of priceless collections

The Ivan Honchar Museum (National Center of Folk Culture) is a museum located in Kyiv, Ukraine, that presents Ukrainian culture and preserves Ukrainian folk art. The museum was founded on a private collection of Ivan Makarovych Honchar shortly after his death in 1993.

The collection consists of over 30,000 objects dating from the 16th to the early 20th century.

Other items include more than 800 icons from the 16th century, more than 100 paintings by famous Ukrainian artists, an impressive collection of nearly 4,000 textile items from the 18th and 19th centuries, pottery, wooden sculptures, and Ukrainian folk music instruments. Another part of the museum is Honchar's private library, with books containing documents that got their owner sent to prison in Soviet times.

Today, the Ivan Honchar Museum needs urgent help to ensure the safety of its magnificent collection.

Peace for Art made its first donation to the museum in May. With this fund, the museum was able to purchase video surveillance equipment to secure its storage facilities and collections.
